My Experience with ChatSonic
ChatSonic has a nice and simple UI with some chat examples you can use in case you cannot come up with your own messages. It also lists the capabilities of the tool to remind you what it can do and what it can’t.

Just like any other chatting service, on the bottom, there’s a message field you can use to send messages to ChatSonic. This really makes it feel like having an actual conversation with someone over the internet.
But this is not impressive. These kinds of chatbots have existed for years now. The real question is does it actually perform.
Now, let’s test the main features of ChatSonic, that is, image generation, text generation, and code generation.
1. Generate Images
One of the cool features of ChatSonic is its ability to generate images from messages. So all you need to do is send it a message that describes an image and it will take care of the rest.
Let’s try ChatSonic image generation capabilities. For example, let’s ask it to create an image of Messi in WorldCup 2022:
Well, that’s impressive! At least by a quick look.
Although the image was not quite what I was looking for, I could use these all day as a blog post featured image or a Youtube thumbnail, for instance.
Please, keep in mind that the current AI image generation technology is good at generating unique, original, and artistic images but it has no real understanding of the text. This is why images with words and logos usually tend to make no sense when you take a closer look at them.
For example, if you take a look at the above images, you will certainly recognize it’s Messi. But if you know a bit more about soccer, you notice that the shirt is not an Argentina shirt, but an FC Barcelona shirt which is not what I asked for (Messi no longer even plays in that team). Also, the jersey number is wrong. Messi plays at 10, not at 11. Besides, the world cup trophy is recognizable but at the same time, it kind of makes no sense with the text and the shape.
That being said, there are lots of inaccuracies in the images that AI can produce. But this is not really an issue with ChatSonic. Instead, it’s the problem that arises in the underlying technology that actually generates these images.
If it was 2020, I’d definitely give this feature a 10/10. But because these days AI image generation has improved by leaps and bounds I’ll have to score it 7/10 as I’m sure these will become so much better in the next couple of years.
Also, notice that this is just a single image I’m reviewing. When I tested the tool on other types of images/art, it did really impressive things.
For example, this image is super impressive and I’ll definitely give it a 10/10.
Now, let’s move on to the main feature of ChatSonic, text generation.
2. Answer a Question
The key difference between ChatSonic and ChatGPT (or pretty much any other AI writing tool) is that ChatSonic knows the latest trends and news.
The AI writing models, such as GPT-3 or ChatGPT are trained on data found on the internet and are usually limited to the years 2021 or 2019. This means for example that GPT-3 and ChatGPT know nothing about the World Cup 2022 results.
But ChatSonic fixes this shortcoming.
For example, let’s ask ChatSonic’s own take on one of the most controversial decisions in the world cup 2022:
As you can see from the response, ChatSonic knows fully well what I’m talking about. Furthermore, in its own words, ChatSonic clarifies why and how the decision was made.
For someone not familiar with this controversy, it was the Japan – Spain game where the ball clearly went out of bounds. But thanks to the latest camera technology (VAR), the ref was able to see that the ball actually was still in play and the goal that resulted was accepted.
Pretty impressive, once again.
It feels like I’m talking to a person who has watched the game and read the news from the following days. What ChatSonic said here is pretty much exactly how the situation went.
Now, as another example, let’s ask ChatSonic about the weather here in Helsinki, Finland. This is something you cannot do with ChatGPT or GPT-3 language models as their data are related to events before 2021.
Incredible, that’s spot on!
I was just walking outside and the temperature was about 27 degrees in Fahrenheit.
As the last example, you can obviously ask ChatSonic for some help when generating a blog post.

3. Write Code
Last but not least, ChatSonic knows how to write code. And we’re not talking about something very basic like adding two numbers, but it can write full-on solutions to software development tasks.
For example, here’s the code it generated when I asked it to write about Python class inheritance:
The code generated is on the right track, but this is not the type of code I was looking for.
- First of all, there’s no formatting. The code is written out as plain text which is annoying for developers.
- Then, the example code it generated was not that good even though it kind of demonstrates how the inheritance works. I mean you cannot run this code to see what it really does because it does nothing useful.
So for this use case, I must say ChatSonic is not your best bet. For comparison, let’s ask ChatGPT the same question:
In this example, the code is formatted nicely. More importantly, it’s well explained and it actually does something useful.
Of course, the problem with ChatSonic or any other code-generating AI is that it’s limited to pretty basic tasks. For example, if you ask it to write code that develops a full-on game, it will fail miserably. In my experience, an AI like this can pass a basic Python or JavaScript course. But nothing more complex.
All I’m trying to say is that AI coding is useful and can speed up the coding process. But it’s nowhere near replacing developers.
Also, when it comes to writing code, I think ChatSonic is impressive! But if you’re looking for a robust solution as your co-programmer, I recommend checking GitHub CoPilot. They have developed an efficient AI coder that’s integrated into most coding environments, unlike ChatSonic.

In my opinion, the best way to find more useful use cases for AI writers is to just explore and use your own imagination.
